Deer Creek Watershed Conservancy is
a non-profit organization made up entirely of property owners who hold
land within the watershed. They have joined together with local
resource managers to protect the unique ecological values associated
with the Deer Creek watershed. The Conservancy is focused on
preserving natural resources through sensitive stewardship practices
and serves as a forum for communication and group action within the
watershed.
Deer Creek provides critical spawning and rearing habitat for many
species of native salmon and trout, including threatened spring-run
Chinook salmon. The Deer Creek watershed is also essential winter range
for portions of the Tehama deer herd and many other species of
wildlife. Migratory birds and wintering raptors also take advantage of
the pristine condition of the creek and surrounding areas. These
creatures have been attracted to Deer Creek as a result of
responsible stewardship from the Deer Creek Watershed Conservancy and
its landowners, and it is this same stewardship that will ensure the
continued survival of the species for future generations.
